The reality of acting

It's not all glits and glammer, if anything, it's mostly draining and brutal. The strongest asset an actor can have is patience and resolve. It's not a race but instead a marathon, you're playing the long game. A twisted and unpredictable game to be frank. Trying to predict or overanalyse your career will only drive you mad or towards burnout. You have to trust in your ability and hold on to what acting means to you.

Why did you begin this journey and how much of your life do you want to commit to it? I have horrible anxiety concerning the things I'm passionate about, I have relied on the idea that it's become a part of my calling and it's helped. The longer I've been in the game, the more time I've had to understand it. Reality can destroy dreams so I've focused on being more elaborate on my approach. Dreams are just dreams unless you plan a way forward. I still understand that only so much is in my hands and I'm willing to bet on myself.

No matter where I am in 5 to 10 years time, I plan to pursue acting wholeheartedly. I believe it's my calling to chase my creative ambitions. I plan to act, write my own works and bring my imagination to life. I understand that creatives pursuing their dreams can come off like they're naive and living in a fantasy.           I don't believe in pipedreams, I believe in something I call planned ambitions. The concept that you can aim for something highup in life, but work towards it strategically whilst maintaining an optimal lifestyle. That's why I plan to study and work alongside my acting, they're not separate endeavours, but part of one mission. My life.

You can chase anything you put your heart towards, just be smart about it. Back to some acting specifics... as an actor you obviously want to be acting, putting yourself out there. Which can only happen if you are given or find yourself a selftape/audition and as an actor, the big roles or opportunities will come from your agent. It's important to also search for your own work. Keep yourself busy. Join an acting class. Prepare your own dialogues or monologues and record yourself. There will be tonne of dry periods in which you won't even get audition requests from your agent and that will drive you mad if you're not resilient. That's besides the fact that most auditions won't be successful. You have to be mentally strong.

I'm there, I'm knocking on doors, Netflix, Global brands and all sorts. A few of these potential clients open their doors to see what I have to offer and most don't. That could change in a split-second or not anytime soon. I've learnt that most of the time your lack of success isn't because of your own failure, but just unfortunate circumstances. Success in this game is when opportunity meets preparedness, and opportunity is a mix of luck and consistency. You got this!

Are you ready to take the leap?
