HOUSE ARREST

13 years later, I have completed 8 seasons of House M.D.

This show has a cult following that somehow evaded me for so long. There's nothing like that shallow feeling when you have completed a show that really got you emotionally invested. The characters became a part of your life in an obscure way. I dream to be in a show like that. So here are my thoughts...

I can't actually remember how I got into this show. It was either through my ex, or from curiosity after seeing so many edits of it on Instagram and Tik Tok. I'd like to think it was through the edits. Plays better on the mind. Anyways, needless to say, I will be diving into spoilers, just warning you. Don't expect any structure though.

House is a complicated character and I feel like he's one of the best written characters in television, excluding the last two seasons. Got alot to say about those seasons. His battle with his humanity and what it means is so deeply sowed into every season. He is unapologetically himself, a 'jerk', yet they manage to always subtly show he has a soft side. He has a very hostile and problematic way of showing his affection that makes him an entertaining watch. The characters around him perfectly add to his character and also shine on their own. There's an obvious formula to the show that plays out in the first and second season, that serve the show well, but can get repetitive. I'm impressed how the show manages to spice up the formula in later seasons. Keeping the audience and me on our toes.

It finds itself in a period of time that didn't set many limits for how far you can go with a joke and unfortunately, a show like this wouldn't thrive as well today. The comedy excels on getting you to be shocked by how raunchy or wild a joke is. There are truly no limits, everyone gets a piece of the pie.

The 'ship' of the show is a relationship that has to be the best complicated relationship shown on TV. Dare I say lovers. All I'm going to say is that they insinuated making love with each other more than once and we don't get to see what happens in James's" last 3 months of life. They have an amazing dynamic that just serves as another asset to the show.

Most of my peeves with the show circulate around the last two seasons. This is mainly due to the writer's choice to divert from a traditional arc for House. Understandably, Lisa Edelstein, the actor who plays Cuddy, left the show before season 8 so I'm sure things had to change. The procephyed relationship wouldn't be happening . They made a drastic choice in putting House in prison for ramming his car into Cuddy's house. I personally believe it was completely out of character. He's an unhinged character but he always has an endgame or reasoning for his actions, even if it's a selfish reason. I loved the jail episodes in the final season but that was not the way to get there or rightoff Cuddy.

I really wish we got a House that was able to turn his life around. Not be perfect but complete the recovery he's been attempting for half of the show's run. Don't get me wrong, I still loved the last two seasons, but they could have been way better. The ending worked for me and I'm satisfied with how they left things. All things considered, it's definitely a 9/10 show.
